M1918 Cleaning Pouch
(M18 Reinigungsgerät)

Introduced in small numbers during the last year of the great war (1918), the Model 1918 cleaning Pouch was made from a grey cotton material similar to the German Bread Bag. It was generally carried inside the Tornister, but had two loops held down by aluminum dish buttons so it could be attached to the belt.

It was approx. 20cmx15cm with a smaller front pocket that measured 10cmx10cm that was intended to hold a muzzle cover for the rifle.

The primary contents for these pouches would be oil, rags, hemp draw string, and so on.

It should be noted that they continued to produce these after the Great War during the time of the Weimar Republic.

This particular sample was issued to J.R.8 in 1926. It is certainly named to a man that used it no doubt.
